Naar Darjeeling, wat een reis was dat! Het schoolhoofd GS vertelde:

We went to Darjeeling by jeep. There were 6 jeeps. We enjoyed lots. It was three hours drive (one way).

Behalve een bezoek aan een tempel, gingen ze naar de dierentuin; voor nog twee foto's klik hier. En voor meer details zie School Report 2014.

Good news!

Van G.S. kregen wij het volgende bericht. Een van de oud-leerlingen van SHA die nu naar Dr. Grahams Homes gaat, Nedup, heeft dit jaar zijn class 10 board exam gedaan. Met goed resultaat: zijn gemiddelde was 76%. In zijn cijferlijst is te zien dat hij 88% heeft gehaald voor “physical education” (sport) en dat verbaast ons niet want hij is altijd al een sportman geweest!

G.S. eindigde zijn bericht als volgt:

“It is because of you all that he got a chance to go to Dr. Grahams Homes and making progress for his bright future. Thank you all for this.”

GS schreef verder:

As you can see, the kitchen roof has now holes all over and the rain water pours through them every day, making it almost impossible to operate inside the kitchen. Not only the kitchen, but also the classrooms as well as the hostel upstairs were hit badly. The situation is such that whenever it is raining (almost every day), the hostel floor, the corridors downstairs, classrooms and the stairs are also getting wet either by direct water leakage or because of people walking across wet areas carrying the water along. No matter how much we try to prevent it and try to keep things dry, it is getting very difficult each passing day with damages spreading further and with regular power-cuts it is definitely a security issue now. We have already tried applying quick fixes to the roofs and walls last year multiple times, and now the things have gone beyond quick fixing.

We seriously think the building needs a lot stronger fixes and if the trust agrees we will go ahead and do it. If you approve, we will do a rough estimate and send it to you.

Bericht uit Dzongu van de directeur van Mayel Lyang Academy, Loden Lepcha.
Hier alles goed en alle kinderen geslaagd voor hun overgangsexamens. Een aantal heeft het extra goed gedaan:

Ringzum op 1 na beste van klas 3
Leah op 2 na beste van klas 3 
Phurba beste van klas 5
Mikzim beste van klas 6
Timsong op 1 na beste van klas 7
Gnaden op 2 na beste van klas 7
Ponalmit op 2 na beste van klas 8
Solomit op 1 na beste van klas 9
Ook de jongens die inmiddels in Gangtok op school gaan zijn allemaal geslaagd: Sonam, Dawa, Rapgay en Laden.
In januari wordt bekend of de paters in Gangtok voor goed opgeleide onderwijzers kunnen zorgen.  Iedereen een heel gelukkig nieuw jaar gewenst door de MLA familie!
